Keller and Heckman LLP is an internationally recognized law firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. The firm is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join its administrative team in the Washington, D.C. Office. The Human Resources Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Human Resources Department, which includes the Director of Human Resources, Human Resources and Benefits Manager, Human Resources and Recruitment Manager, and Human Resources Coordinator. This role is essential in ensuring efficient HR processes, regulatory compliance, and delivering exceptional service to employees across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruitment activities for administrative and legal staff, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, scheduling and coordinating interviews, managing onsite interview logistics, conducting reference checks and assisting with summer associate activities. 
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a positive experience for new hires and departing employees, including checklists, system access, orientation coordination, and policy inquiries.
  • Coordinate learning and development initiatives across the firm, including scheduling, researching vendors, and tracking attendance.
  • Assist with annual performance reviews, including generating reports and data, compiling data and updating internal systems.
  • Support HR initiatives and projects focused on process improvements.
  • Manage daily HR administrative operations, including updating internal firm resources, preparing monthly calendar schedule for Business Operations Team, and maintaining employee records and HR documentation within document management system.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies and applicable employment laws, including maintaining I-9 and completing compliance reports.
  • Coordinate logistics for firm events including catering and invitations.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card expenses for HR account in expense management system.
  • Serve as a backup to the Human Resources Coordinator to administer leave requests for Business Operations Team, ensure coverage and compliance, assist with payroll, assist with benefits administration and monitor leave balances in HRIS system.
  • Assist employees with basic benefits inquiries and enrollment questions.
  • Collaborate with other administrative departments to promote effective communication and foster a positive, professional work environment.
  • Provide daily lunch coverage as well as partial and full-day reception desk coverage during absences of the Receptionist.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in a HR role or administrative position.
  • Experience with HRIS a plus; we currently use Paylocity, Breezy, and ChromeRiver.
  • Law firm experience is a plus.

Hybrid Work Arrangement

This role follows a hybrid work model. Hybrid schedules are determined based on role requirements and business needs. Must be local to the Washington, D.C. area.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is: $50,000 - $70,000, representing the low and high end of the salary range. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related experience, qualifications, and internal alignment. The firm offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, prescription drug, vision, and dental coverage.
